Lemon- Vanilla Cake


1 1/2 sticks butter
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 cups sugar
5 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 Tbs lemon extract
1 cup buttermilk

1. Preheat oven to 350į. Grease two 8Ē cake pans, line the bottom with parchment paper, grease parchment paper, and dust pan with flour. (This recipe will make a half sheet cake as well.)
2, In an electric mixer fitted with wire whips, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs untill creamy and fluffy. Add vanilla and lemon extract. In separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder. (Sifting is important, you canít skip this!)
3. With mixer on low speed, incorporate into the butter mixture the flour mixture and buttermilk, alternating the two. Divide evenly between cake pans, and bake just untill a cake tester inserted in the middle of cake comes out clean, about 20-30 minutes. (You donít want to over bake, the cake will be dry.)
