don’t mind the drool, I just can’t feel my lip

Well, I sit here and type this with my numb mouth. Really, the root canal wasn’t too bad. With all the braces and mouth surgeries I’ve had, it didn’t seem bad at all. The dentist was done so quick, in less than an hour, that he offered to fill a cavity next to the root canal tooth. I thought, “What the hell? I’m already in it for 1600 dollars, what’s another couple hundred towards the dentist’s Ferrari fund?” You’d think they’d give me a discount for the filling; I was already numb and everything. But, nope, I paid full price for this baby.

One thing I come away from this knowing, when this tooth gets paid off, or hopefully even before then, I’m gong to start a medical savings account. We just need to plan on these things being a monthly expense so it doesn’t hit so hard when it happens. Ahh, the joys of being an adult… a self-employeed, uninsured adult.

We have this credit card. It’s called CARE CREDIT. It’s amazing and I support this thing 100%. You can use it for the dentist and the vet and all kinds of health care crap. And the deal is that they sign you up for EACH transaction that you make, for like 6 months interest free, or a year or whatever. It has saved us with the dental bills. Seriously! They have a website. And if they approved us, they’ll approve anyone, LOL

Hehe, that reminds me of what I always say: Dentists love me, they look at my crookedy ass, hard to clean teeth and see a new car or a trip to Bora Bora. Glad you got it taken care of and it sucks to not have insurance… we do now but didn’t for a long time… and now I have the cavities to prove it. Actually, just one more left and I’m all caught up. HOPEFULLY! And not counting braces which are also hopefully in my future.

Just wait until you get old and your body REALLY starts falling apart on you. I’ll bet Canada will start looking mighty nice. Apart from the healthcare bit, you’ll get to wear all of your wooly knits for more of the year!

Poor Allison, I’m sorry you have had so much pain (in the teeth and the checkbook). I can relate, with my new $2000 root canal and crown :-).

Don’t feel bad about the medical insurance. I HAVE medical insurance. Pay big bucks for it every month. And it doesn’t cover anything…..

Good dental insurance is really hard to come by. I feel very much like dentists are mechanics…. they’ve got you in a bad spot and can pretty much charge whatever they want, LOL. A medical savings account is a really good idea.

So sorry to hear that you’re in pain, and drooly-face is no fun at all!

Hey we have carecredit too! It’s awesome!

Have to comment, as my husband is a dentist. Really, they don’t make that much money. Seriously. Check out our current struggles on my blog if you don’t believe me. We can’t even freaking afford health insurance. For real. At least I don’t have to pay for dental work, though.
